Congressman Tom Price, MD, speaks to Greater North Fulton Chamber
On July 1, 2009, the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce in Alpharetta hosted an event with U.S. 6th District Congressman Tom Price, MD, on “The Future of Healthcare”.
Nationalized healthcare is a hot topic in our country and concerns families in Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton and Roswell, Georgia. As a self-employed business professional I hope that the solutions will lower healthcare costs.
There are many “visions” how nationalized healthcare should be crafted. At the forefront of the discussion is “who” will determine the path of our treatment?
- The patient and their family
- The government
I fear “the government” deciding my accessibility to quality healthcare! I think about the government run post office (always broke) or the millions of deceased people that got government stimulus checks recently. “Government” is the leading example of a ’poorly run always going broke’ company in America.
I think of government run VA hospitals. They are a sad reflection of the government taking “care” of people. Could America actually end up with nationalized healthcare based on the VA model? Run Forest run…as fast as you can from government operated healthcare!
Personally I do not want “the government” managing which prodecure I can “qualify” for on a chart with my age “based on averages”. I would argue nothing about me is average especially my health. I am blessed with good genes-grand parents lived full lives till nearly 100. But what if the government models don’t go beyond 65 or 70? I could out live their chart and then what would the government do to me?
Congressman Tom Price, MD, gave an insightful presentation on what is at the very core of this discussion. It’s time for a serious, thoughtful discussion on nationalized healthcare. We need to think about this issue very carefully. Because we could end up with a “stand in line” VA healthcare model that will go broke from the start just like the post office.
